1 year old Annie is in an orphanage, presided over by Miss Hannigan, who keeps the little girl orphans in line by bullying and threatening them. The girls are ever hopeful that they will find parents and happiness while Miss Hannigan is unhappy with her situation.
Annie decides to escape with her pet dog Sandy to find her parents. However, she is returned to the orphanage. However, out of the gloom there is hope when she is plucked from obscurity to stay in the palatial mansion of Oliver 'Daddy' Warbucks for Christmas.
